Why lessons here are activity-based rather than textbook-first, adopted gradually between 2016 and 2019, and what that looks like on the timetable.
Approach
Fewer worksheets, more talking
Pre-primary and primary follow an activity-based method rather than a textbook-first one — reading readiness through picture books and read-aloud before phonics drills, and mathematics through counters and measuring before the number line appears on paper. From Class VI, every science period is timetabled with a practical component, not a term-end demonstration the teacher does alone.

Where this came from
The current approach was adopted gradually between 2016 and 2019, after two teachers attended a National Council of Educational Research and Training workshop on activity-based learning and asked to pilot it in one Class III section. It spread by teachers visiting each other’s classrooms rather than by a circular, and the last subject to convert was mathematics, in 2019.
