VidyaOS Demo School (not a real school)Examination & Assessment

Examination & Assessment

How Classes I to XII are actually assessed — no ranking since 2011, CBSE's 80/20 split from Class IX, and how to see an answer script.

Classes I to V are assessed twice a term against what was taught that term, and the report is a paragraph and a grade rather than a mark out of a hundred. There is no annual examination in the primary wing.

Classes VI to VIII

Two reported assessments a term. Internal assessment is 20% and is recorded as it happens rather than reconstructed in March. A child who misses an assessment sits it in the following week; there is no zero for absence.

Classes IX to XII

CBSE’s scheme, unmodified: 80 marks written and 20 internal, with the internal broken into periodic tests, notebook and subject enrichment exactly as the board defines them. Two pre-boards for Classes X and XII, on dates published in the calendar in April.

Re-checking

Any answer script may be seen by the parent in the office within ten working days of the result. Totalling is re-checked free; re-evaluation of an answer is not offered for school examinations.

Questions

What parents ask about assessment

Do you rank the class?

No. We stopped in 2011. The report card gives your child’s marks, the class average and the highest mark in the class, which is what a parent actually needs in order to place the number.

What happens if my child is ill during an assessment?

They sit it the following week. There is no zero for absence and no medical certificate is required for a single missed assessment.

Can we see the answer script?

Yes, within ten working days of the result, in the office and with the subject teacher present. Totalling is re-checked free of charge.

Is there a minimum attendance to sit the board examination?

Seventy-five per cent, which is CBSE’s rule and not ours. We write to a parent the moment a child falls below eighty, so that nobody finds out in February.
